August 29, 2012 — Perryville, Maryland, USA
Please post to all appropriate venues
Atlas Poetica: A Journal of Poetry of Place in Contemporary Tanka is pleased to announce « Chiaroscuro – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Tanka » edited by the poet, Janick Belleau . This edition continues ATPO’s tradition of hosting Special Features devoted to a particular topic in tanka that evokes a strong sense of place; in this particular edition, a sense of inner place.
Thirty-two poets from nine countries submitted 130 poems; 25 were selected, following the standard format of the Special Features of one poem each by 25 poets.
Besides tanka, this Special Feature includes a biographical sketch of the authors and an introduction by Ms Belleau. She writes: « The selected poems convey a strong emotion or evoke inner thoughts, profound aspirations, heartfelt concerns. The ultimate intent of this project was/is to give voice to LGBT and androgyne persons, friends and supporters. »
Atlas Poetica is an international tanka journal that publishes all forms of tanka literature: tanka, kyoka, and gogyoshi, along with prose, sequences and sets, shaped poetry, and non-fiction. The Atlas Poetica Special Features section highlights different aspects of the literature presented by different guest editors.
Chiaroscuro – Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Tanka can be viewed at the Atlas Poetica website, at: http://atlaspoetica.org/?page_id=136
About the guest editor
Janick Belleau’s tanka—often featuring love and life – have been published in Canada (Gusts, Revue du tanka francophone, Magnapoets), in Japan (The Tanka Journal) and in the United States (red lights, Ribbons, Atlas Poetica). Before co-editing Take Five: Best Contemporary Tanka 2011 and editing Chiaroscuro – 25 LGBT Tanka for Atlas Poetica, she authored a bilingual 91-tanka collection, D’âmes et d’ailes/of souls and wings (2010 Canada-Japan Literary Award) which is introduced with an overview of waka/tanka written since the 9th century by women in Japan and in France.
